Warning Date: 6:03 am CST on January 17, 2007

WarningSum:...Winter Storm Warning Remains In Effect Until Noon Cst Today...

Warning Message:...Winter Weather Advisory in effect from noon today to 7 PM CST
this evening...
The National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio has issued a
Winter Weather Advisory...which is in effect from noon today to
7 PM CST this evening. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect
until noon CST today.
Areas of light freezing rain... sleet and snow continue to
Travers The Hill Country and south central Texas. Reports of ice
accumulations of one quarter to one half inch are widespread on
exposed objects. The area of wintry precipitation will gradually
shift north leaving the area overnight. Temperatures will rise
just above freezing this afternoon allowing some ice melt.
Additional freezing rain and sleet tonight will be light with
accumulations less than one quarter inch.
Travel is discouraged until later this morning. However...if
travel is required... drive with caution. Some sidewalks will be
treacherous. Pedestrians should be alert for falling ice.
A Winter Storm Warning means accumulations of snow... sleet...
freezing rain... or freezing drizzle are expected or occurring.
This will cause considerable travel problems and may pose a
threat to life and property.
Listen to NOAA Weather Radio... your local media... or go to
www.Srh.NOAA.Gov/ewx for the latest updates on this situation.
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow...sleet...or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities...and use caution while
driving.
Warning Description: Special Weather Statement

Warning Date: 6:45 am CST on January 17, 2007

WarningSum:...Winter Storm Warning In Effect For All Of South Central Texas And
The Hill Country Until 12 Pm Cst Today...

Warning Message:...Winter Weather Advisory in effect from noon to 7 PM from del Rio
to The Hill Country...Austin and San Antonio...
Areas of light freezing rain...mixed with some sleet and snow will
continue to track from the west to the east the rest of this morning
across The Hill Country and south central Texas. Occasional snow is
possible in this wintry mix over The Hill Country to Austin.
Roads and Highways continued to be hazardous and slippery for travel
over The Hill Country and south central Texas...including the Austin
to San Antonio corridor.
Temperatures this morning will be in the 20s over The Hill Country
and in the upper 20s to near freezing across south central Texas.
The wind chill index will be in the 20s.
The wintry mix of precipitation will continue to cause slippery to
hazardous driving conditions on roads...bridges and overpasses. Ice
on exposed objects...walkways...trees...and power lines will create
a hazard.
Slippery sidewalks and the ground outside will make for hazardous
walking outdoors.
Travel is discourages...however if travel is necessary...use of
defensive driving practices will make for safer travel in the cold
and damp weather. If you absolutely must travel...do so with
extreme caution and at slower speeds...especially when making turns
or Lane changes. Be prepared by packing plenty of warm clothing...
food and water. Let others know of your Route and destination.
4 wheel drive vehicles do not brake or turn any better on ice than a
2 wheel drive...and wider tires offer even less traction on ice.
This winter storm will continue the rest of this morning...so be
safe and delay travel plans until conditions improve.
